Ancestral memory in our DNA

Grandmother — Shamanic Healing Arts, SeattleRecent discoveries in the field of genetics are generating a wealth of extraordinary information about us humans through studying our DNA. These itsy bitsy things carry vast amounts of memory and information about our history a very long way back. I came across this the other day:

“The paternal line of all women leads to a man who lived in Africa an estimated 125,000 years ago.” –23andme.com

Most of us have heard about the human genome project, and how they have traced our origins to Africa, but reading this brought home what had been more of a philosophical perspective for me: that we are all related. Our DNA links us to one another biologically, and it is in every cell of our body.

As we carry this memory of our history in our cells, I can only imagine that every human has access to the memory of our indigenous roots. And, if this is true, each one of us has only to unlock, if it hasn’t been unlocked yet, how to embody balancing our intellect with intuition, knowledge with spirit, and regard our imagination as one of our senses.

It may help our species reach a critical mass of awareness. Can this support a return to living in harmony with our planet that gives us life, and to share it responsibly? I would love to hear your thoughts.

This field of memory held in our DNA has many secrets to tell. I believe we tap into this field of information when working shamanically, and with constellational process, and that each of us has the capacity to tap into this knowing. It is a matter of remembering the subtle ways of paying attention and engaging our senses.
